The face of each stud is a thin butterfly of white nephrite jade with its wings spread: two broad upper wings with softly pointed tips, two smaller wings below, and a wavy, lobed outer edge. Shallow carved grooves and small round hollows mark the front of the wings, while the back is left flat. Down the centre runs the body, a narrow frame of 18K yellow gold set with three small emeralds in a line; it wraps around the jade to the back, where the post is fixed. FAQ
Nephrite or jadeite? Both are jade, and both are exceptionally tough. Nephrite is the tougher of the two, with a softer, quieter luster; jadeite is harder and glassier. Natural nephrite jade is the principal stone in every JIE JIANG piece; where a piece also carries jadeite, its product page says so. The species is written on the tag, and for high-value pieces a GIA identification report is available on request.
Does it change with wear? Physically, a little: nephrite is very tough but not scratch-proof, so years of daily wear can leave fine surface marks. It does not fade or change colour.
Water and sweat? Fine for hand-washing and rain. Take it off for pools, hot tubs and sport: chlorine and sweat wear on silk thread and metal findings rather than on the stone. Dry it before storing.
